Writers Block II

Posted 7 months, 2 weeks ago at 8:39 am. 3 comments

Up until Danny’s party, I was convinced that the only people who bothered with reading my blog were Ash, Rachel, and a plethora of Nathan’s hilariously stalky ex girlfriends. (It’s okay, ladies. I love the attention. That, and people think it’s a faantastic story.). As it turns out, I’ve got a slightly more far-reaching audience. Upon hearing this I was delighted, and vowed to blog more. Unfortunately, I’ve got a case of Writers Block the size of Texas. (Or, more accurately, the size of a big fat guy that lives in Texas.)

I’ve gone to write about my weekend about three times now - both in my trusty notepad and electronically, but to no avail. I mean, a bunch of stuff is coming out, but it’s boring and repetative. You know, the cat sat on the mat. The dog ate the cat. The dog exploded and kittens went everywhere type stuff.

Actually that’s not so bad. I should be a childrens novellist. I’m going to need a good illustrator though because I can’t draw to save myself. Here. Look. Here’s a self portrait.

I’m not even going to try to draw that exploding dog thing.

I don’t know what my problem is. Lots of interesting stuff is happening right now. He’s a list.

- Nathan joined the gym, so now he’s going to be even hotter. I know, I find it hard to believe that that could even happen but here we are.

- We’re having an awesome party.

- Oh. We’re having an awesome party because Rachel is coming to visit (:D), Ross is going back to Ravenshoe (:() Nathan is moving/has moved in (:DD) It’s sammy-o’s birthday (Woo!) and Caragh is going to Melbourne (:(()

- I need to say this one twice. Nathan moved in. It’s all kinds of awesome.

- Danny had a fantastic 21st birthday party that I’d like to write about in detail but the writers block is forcing me to sit in a big puddle of my own drool, tapping away absently at the keyboard. Last time I tried to go too indepth on the birthday thing I ended up all tangled up, sticky, and very very confused.

Needless to say, I’m trying to avoid ending up like that again.

- The Dakabin kids are having a get together at Sizzler.

- I’m taking Danny out to dinner. We’re hoping to get Joanne to come along.

- ……..frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Catchup..

I figured I should just do a quick roundup of all the stuff that’s been happening, mostly to appease Rach and Ash (There. I blogged.)

New Years
We opted for a somewhat quiet one this year - Grant was having a party, and the fireworks are visible from my bedroom balcony - so I figured a combination of the two would be excellent. We showed up at Grant’s a little late, beer and wine in hand, and had a generally good evening. Laura is a fucking amazing cook, and Grant has an excellent selection of music. I had a chance to catchup with a few Telstra kids, but I really spent most of the night talking to the boy. Pointless going to a party when you’re just going to spend the whole night talking to the boyfriend, I know, but eh.

We left their place just in time to see the fireworks at home. In my drunken state I managed to spill all my secrets to Nathan - all the stuff I’d never told anyone - so now he knows everything. He didn’t run away screaming either, so I’m somewhat pleased.

Mum’s Birthday
Mum’s birthday is on the 5th of January - way too close to Christmas, if you ask me. Nathan and I decided to cook her some dinner, and spend the evening watching bad TV on her immeasurably comfortable couches.

Seriously, they’re fucking awesome.

We woke up earlyish, went to the gym for a bit of exercise and a loooot of stretching (I introduced Nathan to lunges) and then headed to Morgans for some fresh seafood.

I felt sorry for the girl behind the counter - I’m way too pushy sometimes. We ended up with a dozen oysters (huge ones), a few prawns, and some fantastic salmon.

I’d originally planned on going to Bunnings to get mum a gift from Jen, and one from me, but as we passed through the tail end of Deception Bay, I pulled into the nursery and found a couple of perfect gifts.

Chilli Bushes!

She wasn’t due home until 7:30, so Nathan did some bonding with Boobalah and some Gardening (I think she awnts to be the one marrying him for this alone) until we started the cooking. I’d advised him earlier that she had a penchant for Oysters kilpatrick, so he ended up making those, sashimi and prawns, and some apricot chicken. I contributed by peeling prawns and assembling a fruit platter.

I’ve got this post on paper so I’ll finish typing it when i get home.

Christmas - Day 2.

I was unusually restless on Christmas morning.

I woke about 6 times - the first 5 were obscenely early, but the 6th was just early enough to wake Nathan with a bunch of kisses.  Despite his potentially horrible hangover, I dragged him out to the tree, still half asleep, grinning and motioning toward his presents.

As I already mentioned, we’d agreed to exchange gifts together Christmas Morning.  I’d been looking forward to opening mine in particular, although watching him open his was almost as good.  He opened the remaining gifts from me (some geek stuff and a picture - he’d already opened his black sabbath shirt, and I’d already given him his other gift the previous afternoon), and I slooowly opened mine.  Nice to build suspense, and all that.

It was in a box from a jeweller.  Iiiinteresting!  Inside was this absolutely gorgeous two tone watch with a mother of pearl face.  It was so grown up, so beautiful.. I kind of couldn’t believe he’d picked something so perfect.  He’s a good kid.

Once I stopped gushing, he made an awesome breakfast, we played some christmas morning playstation with his dad, and we headed out to my Aunties place.

I was fairly nervous about taking him out there.  My mum, sister, and I are.. somewhat different from the rest of my family.  Don’t get me wrong, I love most of them very much, but it’s kind of an alternate universe.  We arrived and Desleigh, who shall henceforth be referred to as Dognuts (a not so affectionate term chosen by my sister) was sitting there.  I turned to Nathan in shock, welcomed him to Christmas, and was enveloped in a giant hug by my Aunty Kate.

I greeted everyone with smiles and hugs, announced that Jennifer and Mum would be there soon, and got ready to call Jen with the news.  Dognuts leapt from her seat, snapped “catherine.. CATHERINE!” a couple of times and dragged aunty kate inside, while I called Jen and informed her that she was there.

As you can probably tell, they don’t get along so well.  It sits rather nicely with me, because while Dognuts lived with us, she made my life generally quite awful.  I wasn’t allowed to eat/drink things from the fridge without asking, she commanded the house whenever mum wasn’t there (and then vehemently denied it upon her return), and often reminded me about how I didn’t cry at my dad’s funeral when I was being particularly obtuse - and quite justifiably so.  I spent most of the day ignoring both her, and her pervert boyfriend.  It was extremely satisfying.

Jennifer arrived shortly after, and the day went without a hitch.  Well.  Kind of.  Lunch was amazing, my aunty makes a completely kick-ass roast, but I can’t help but be a little concerned about some of the family.  My cousin, for instance, who has a beautiful little girl, seems to have developed a curious drug addiction.  My other cousin, who wasn’t in attendance, already has three (two or three, I can’t be certain) kids, is pregnant again, isn’t quite sure who the father is, and is battling a drug addiction of her own.  If that wasn’t enough, she’s moving in with the father of her first two kids, who routinely beats her, the kids, and hocks their belongings.

They’re a classy bunch.

After eating lunch and catching up, we decided it was time to go home and exchange presents - my mum, sister and I were waiting until before dinner.  While we unwrapped our gifts, Nathan looked after the roast, and when we were all done we settled in for some cluedo.

I fell asleep during the post dinner movie, and the last thing I remember was being walked upstairs and half being put into bed.  Christmas wasn’t so bad at all.

Christmas - Day One!

Christmas was rather substantial this year.

I’m not usually terribly phased by the idea of being somewhat isolated from friends/family at this time of year.  For the last two years I’d been lured by double triple mega-time at work, but this year with the new job and the change of conditions, I was really hoping for a bit of a change this year.

I have to say, I definitely got what I was after.

Nathan’s folks wanted to do Christmas on the 24th - mostly so all the kids could do Christmas however they pleased on the day itself.  Despite the fact I was working until 12, I still managed to make it on time for lunch - and presents - AND I beat Nathan home.

I probably would’ve been daunted by the idea of spending time with parents/siblings without the boyfriend present, but his family aren’t bad types at all.  His dad is pretty amusing, and generally pretty honest and upfront.  His mum was a little hard to read to start with, but she was always really welcoming, and now i’ve gotten to know her at least a little better (I hope), she’s warm and friendly.  I only recently met his baby sister, but she’s really sweet too.

When I arrived I was greeted with an offer of booze and a giant pile of presents.  Not all for me, obviously, but at I have to say that booze and gifts are probably way up the top of the festive list, especially when it comes to feeling at home.  Nathan’s dad saw me admiring the tree, and launched into a story about Nathan and his penchant for putting the angel atop the tree.  It was adorable.  When he was finished he gestured over to the stack of presents, specifically at the giant rectangular one and informed me that it was mine.

Eventually the boy arrived, car full of gifts, prawns and still more booze, and we sat down to open presents.  Nathan’s mum pulled out the camera and insisted I open the giant, overwhelming mystery gift.  We’d decided to open our presents together on Christmas morning, but his family seemed so excited.  So, with his mum poised with her finger on the camera, I slooowwllyy, almost painstakingly peeled the paper away from the giant present.

I kind of couldn’t believe how much effort he’d put into it.  It was a picture from the Trivium concert - in a big beautiful frame - with my wristband underneath.  I got all teary, he started grinning, his mum and sister were making ‘aww’ noises.. I’m pretty sure I have the most amazing boyfriend ever.

With gifts unwrapped, and me full of apologies to his sisters for getting them such impersonal gifts, it was time for lunch.  His mum had put in a huge effort - there was a pile of ham, a plate full of chicken and a few salads, plus the big bowl of prawns that the boy had collected from Morgans in the morning - it was a lovely spread.  We did the customary crackers and donned the ridiculous hats, and after a couple of hours everyone headed in their seperate directions, and we headed out for a brief walk to get some ice.

Despite the normal Christmas bickering, it was a pretty awesome day.  We spent what remained of the afternoon kissing and drinking.  Pretty ideal if you ask me.  I’ll upload some photos when I’m less capped.
